3/4 kg red cabbage
2 to 3 tablespoons margarine or butter
50ml syrup
1 small yellow onion
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 apples peeled and cut in wedges
1 tablespoon salt white pepper or alispice

Shred the cabbage finely.
Melt the margarine or butter in a heavy kettle add the cabbage and syrup.
Let cock over medium heat for about 15 minutes occasionally stirring.
Grate the onlon and add together with the vinegar and apples.
Cook covered over low heat for about 112 hours or till the cabbage is tender.
Stir now and then so that the cabbage does not burn.
Season to taste with salt and pepper or allspice.
Pressure cooker may be used for this dish; cook for about 15 minutes.
